Conditions we treat
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury
A tear of the ligament that gives the knee stability, common in sports with pivoting or sudden stops; it makes the knee "give way" or feel unstable.
Meniscus injury
A tear of the cartilage that cushions the knee, causing pain, swelling, and sometimes the feeling that the knee "locks."
Cartilage injuries
Damage to the surface covering the knee bones, which can cause pain and limit movement if left untreated.
Knee osteoarthritis (wear)
Progressive cartilage wear that causes pain, stiffness, and difficulty walking or climbing stairs.
Patellar instability
The kneecap slips out of place or feels unstable, especially when bending the knee or making certain movements.
We also treat
- Patellar / quadriceps tendinitis
- Sports knee injuries
- Collateral ligament injuries
How we assess your knee, honestly
Not every knee injury needs surgery. Before talking about operating, we do a complete clinical exam and order the imaging needed to confirm your diagnosis precisely and plan the right treatment for your case.
Often, the answer isn't the operating room. There are many options — from physical rehabilitation to therapies that stimulate tissue recovery — to improve your function and relieve pain, when your case allows.
When surgery is necessary, many knee injuries can be treated arthroscopically: a minimally invasive technique that repairs the joint through small incisions. In cases of advanced wear, treatment may require a different type of surgery, and we explain it clearly. Whatever your case, we're with you step by step until you don't have a single doubt left.
What many patients ask us
- Recovery time varies by many factors: the type of injury, the procedure, and the specifics of your case. In your evaluation, we give you a clear idea of the estimated time for you, so you can plan with peace of mind.
- The goal of treatment is to restore your mobility and help you return to physical activity. Most patients are able to return to sports, though every case is different and assessed individually. In your evaluation, we explain what you can expect based on your situation.
- Post-operative pain is usually well controlled with standard medications. Arthroscopy, being minimally invasive, tends to allow a more comfortable recovery. In your evaluation, we explain how your process will go, step by step.
- Not always. A prosthesis is considered when the problem can't be resolved by other means and the joint wear is severe and advanced. In many cases there are alternatives before reaching that point, and in your evaluation we assess which is right for you.
